Summer 2004

Arlene Tribbia
THE TWO

I've seen them twice
on my way home in
the night's soft middle
holding at the dark edges
of the road, bushes & trees

I believe they are two, brother
& sister, so sweet & slender
& new yet to slippery nights

I see them again: the deer hover
inside the lit headlights of my car
watching with innoocent eyes my
heavy car on the road home &

I wish they know togetherness
always for I know what it is
to lose a brother to the light
