FALL/WINTER 2012

David Salner

FOR LEONARD PELTIER

I sat down to read about Crazy Horse,
but the books told me little
except that he gave everything to the poor
and loved Black Buffalo Woman.

No one alive is like him, but there is one man
who has spent most of his life in prison.
From this man I could learn about Crazy Horse.

DAVID SALNER OBTAINED HIS MFA from the University of Iowa, decided he didn't want to teach, worked for many years as an iron ore miner, steelworker, and general laborer. His second book, Working Here, was published by Minnesota State University’s Rooster Hill Press in 2010. His poetry appears in recent issues of The Iowa Review, Poetry Northwest, Poetry Daily, and Threepenny Review.
