Fall/Winter 2014

Kitty Jospe

STRAIGHT UP

Forget the rocks.
Turn paradox into two ducks
walking into a bar, new in town
who drink forgetfulness smooth
as special reserve, Maker’s Mark
peaty Laphroaig.
or any type of crown—
Like diving ducks, they scaup,
downing Bourbon
out of it,like French kings,
grunt as they break open the cask of sake—
no mirror necessary as they slur
into vergesslichkeittossing
back of shots of schnapps neat,
yodeling now,

taking life straight up, no twist.
