ZOO

if there is such a thing
as the ghost of history,
the jackal who fasts
until he sees what he wants
then I hope he has seen me
walking through Ituri Forest,
seen me turn around,
smile at the hippopotamus


MARINA RUBIN is associated poetry editor of Mudfish Magazine in New York. Her poetry has appeared in PDQ, Timber Creek Review, Ilya's Honey, Pearl, the Skidrow Penthouse, Asheville Poetry Review, Chaffin Journal, White Crow, the Amherst Review, Urban Spaghetti, Mojo Risin', 5 AM, Poet Lore and more.
