Life is not
Always writ
Exclusively in
Black and white

Look again find
Where the edges blend
It’s mostly
Shades of gray

The color of the newborn’s caul
Becomes the color of its aging hair
The sky
Our state of mind
The shroud
Our ash

In the end
Gray dust is
All that’s left
Of our being us
