Quickly
before it is quite dark c
ome with me to the beach  

The last faint wash of pink is fading into gray
Night Herons settle in the marsh, a thousand terns are gathered
for a final flight across the channel  

The water is so clear you might see China
white on white – wings racing
diving toward the moon  

This is a night
to strip of everything to meet love
in the naked water  

Quickly before
it is quite
dark
