TO THE MAN IN THE MOON |
Please
stop shining through my shut-eye dreams
with your gingerbread head silhouette
your cheerful icing smile
your eternal open arm embrace
so inviting, so unreachable.
Mr Man
keep your moonbeams to yourself, cease
intruding on Nyquil nights when I’m coughing
a fever of curses because I can’t breathe
can’t sleep, can’t stop staring at the mesmerizing
shine of your silvered face.
Moon Man
don’t let my gaze linger long when rest
is a galaxy away from heavy-lidded dawn,
let me not walk on your powder sugar surface
in wide-eyed wakefulness, give me slumber
beneath your unblinking stare.
My Man
dim your bulb behind a curtain of clouds
shine on me from afar, let me sleep
sweetheart, let me sugar plum you my love
let me adore you in my dreams
dear one, only in my dreams.
