A BOY SHOULD LOVE A GIRL BECAUSE OF ETERNITY
Ten Poems by Robert Plath

a boy should love a girl because of eternity
because the stars tip their silver hats goodnight
and the dark blue sky is the bluest curtain
in the universe
a girl should love a boy because as we run blind
along the garden wall the afternoon sun steals skin
from out bare shoulders and the grass
smiles how its scattered
seed dust is secretly our warm bodies
a boy should love a boy because of eternity
the rosy dawn is putting on a big black hat and going, going
invisible
a girl should love a girl because of eternity
because the landscape darkens, light is slowly leaving the
mountains, and the wind gets cold, the wind gets
cold
