Susan Terris

WALKING DOWN THE STREET
WE SEE THE DISSOLUTION OF A MARRIAGE

A sea of fallen needles, the front steps unswept.
Locksmith kneeling at the front door is
changing the pins.

Here, words evaporate as they are spoken,

and the children lose
new keys as carelessly as they lost the old.
