Summer 2005

JOSEPH BRUCHAC
LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW AT THE GREEN MOUNTAINS
ON JACK KEROUAC'S BIRTHDAY AT DAWN

no dharma,
no bums
just a few crows
wings like
the eyelashes of dawn

and despite

the warthog jets
roaring low over the range
training to bust Muslim tanks

the same old mountains

good
enough

Joseph Bruchac lives in the northern New York town of Greenfield Center, a place often reflected in his poems. His newest books of poetry, both from West End Press, are NDAKINNA/OUR LAND and ABOVE THE LINE. His poems have appeared in the Poets Against the War website and that he is one of the poets who ended up being uninvited to the cancelled White House poetry event in 2003.
