THE COMMANDER OF THE GUARDS IN SEVASTIA BECOMES A MARTYR

What answer I shall provide to the Judge…
                                                                             Dimitar Kantakuzin
If you need one more voice for God to hear you,
If you need one more hand to warm yourself,
If you need one more death – to have the sacred
Figure – take it from me!

For this mere of ice is tempting,
And my soldiers aren’t used to sniveling,
Therefore I congratulate their mouths and their penises livid with cold
And command to the guards – begin with me!

Forty times convey to the emperor contempt.
Those who ask for forgiveness, shall be forgiven!
To be a martyr, my dear, is tempting!
And keep in mind – begin with me!
