Anton Baev

THEODOSIA AND THE SOLDIER

                 Bishop, you, who uttered that,
You desired not the death of the sinner…
                                                                    Vissarion

Has he no guilt, the man who takes down
The icon by order of someone else.

Has she no guilt, the woman
Who shoves his ladder forward,
In order to support him there.

All the same the icon will come down.
All the same the order will be executed.

The only tiny choice left –
By whom?

This question is of no importance to history.

Anton Baev was born in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He graduated from the English Language Secondary School in Plovdiv, specialized in community journalism at Iowa State University and in 2009 obtained a Doctor’s degree at the Institute for Literature at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He is the author of a number of books in different genres: seven books of poetry, five novels, two books of short stories, a book of philosophical fragments and two academic monographs.
