Fall/Winter 2017

Brian Daldorph |
I CALL MY MOTHER |
and say, “How are you doing? I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.”
My first lie.
“Of course I didn’t call you just to ask about money.”
My second lie.
“Why don’t we go out for supper? I’d like that.”
My third lie.
“I’m doing really well,” I say. “I’ve got another job
interview. I’m still working at Tire and Exhaust Warehouse.”
Lies four, five, six.
“I’ll call you again soon,” I say, because
I like to finish up with a bit of truth.
