SHE GOES TO THE CITY |
taking the train with all the rest
but she’s mine
art and teen
shows round trip tickets
of insight and pain
dance and mouth smart
she knows how to wind
through frustration
of dawdling crowds
to arrive on time
subway to Penn
she starts back from the city
dream weaves her way
to find a car hopes a seat
knows the list of stations
on the Mineola line
the static staccatos
of all the conductors’
new yawk monotones
heading home
and she is weary and stimulated
art and teen
song fresh and homework irritated
comes back from the city
self-defines from the crowd
which spills and fragments away
from the track
not mine never was
but she cuddles unwinds
she comes home to me
back
